Community and school leaders were at Elementary North on Friday, March 1 as part of the school district’s Indian Friends Reading program.
The program, in its 10th year, brings in local leaders to read to classes. Each class has its own reader, who tells what they do in the community and then reads a grade appropriate book selected by the teacher.
“Indian Friend Reading Day is one of the favorite days of the entire year at North,” said LouAnne Stevens, AEN Principal. “This year’s date was set in conjunction with Dr. Seuss’ birthday, so some of our readers read one of his books. Our students are so excited about reading that when someone special reads with them they are just thrilled.
“This connection to the community, bringing good friends and good books together, is priceless. We’re already looking forward to next year.”
Readers included representatives from Thompson Pipe, Alvarado Police Department, Chicken Express, Alvarado Lions Club, and Johnson County Sheriff’s Office among others.
Each elementary school in the district has an Indian Friend Reading Day. Lillian Elementary School will have its Reading Day on Friday, May 10.
